Christian Aid is one of the largest charities that we support at Park United Reformed Church. As well as organising collections for Christian Aid's work, we pray for the work and we campaign throughout the year.
Christian Aid and its partners are working to bring an end to poverty around the world - tackling its root causes as well as its effects.
2013 is going to be another busy year for Christian Aid. As well as continuing to work with the world’s poorest people, Christian Aid has joined with other agencies and organisations for the ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE – IF campaign, which aims to tackle the practices that keep one in eight people in the world living in hunger.
Christian Aid director Loretta Minghella has reflected on Psalm 107:5: ‘They were hungry and thirsty and their life just ebbed away.’ Today, hunger is a reality for 900 million people every day. IF we act together and IF we tackle the structural causes of poverty and hunger, such as tax dodging by big business, which deprives developing countries of an estimated $160 billion a year, we can make a major impact in the fight against hunger.
On 12-18 May 2013, Christian Aid Week takes place. The total raised was £12.5m in 2012 and we hope this year will be even better.
Christian Aid has an excellent website at www.christianaid.org.uk
Together we can make a difference and seek an end to poverty.
