Guides
The 30th Reading (Park) Guides meet at Park United Reformed Church on Thursday evenings during school term time.
We have about 30 members and we have lots of leaders-Martha, Gemma, Bev, Jessica and Lucy.
We have helped to raise money for one of our closest charities ‘Feed the Children’, who are based in Twyford. We have helped them with a nearly-new fa
shion show and some of us were models, and we like to go to their headquarters and help with packing and sorting clothes and food .We also helped them to assemble educational packs which are sent to developing countries. We have seen some very moving pictures of children in these countries where the packs are sent to. We also had a visit from them and they brought a survival pack and an aqua box these had tents sleeping bags water filters plus a lot more. It was amazing how much they could fit in to these boxes. They also had a survival bag which is like a huge plastic bag and we had a great time trying out what it might be like to sleep in one! It was very uncomfortable ,but good fun!
We go on holidays, recently we attended ‘WINGS 2009’ an international jamboree with Guides and Scouts from all round teh world. We like to think we are quite a sporty lot, and enjoy playing rounders and football in the Park, going bowling and swimming.
A short while ago we held a chocolate fondue and as you can see from the photos, some of us got a bit sticky but it was loads of fun.
The ladies from The Bodyshop in Reading are great, coming to our meetings to let us loose on their products for treatments such as a foot massage and facials.
Along with Go For It’s, badges, Church Parade and taking part in the Disability Awareness challenge and the Cupboard Technology Challenge we are pretty
busy but having a brill time in the process.
In 2010 a group of us are going to Switzerland as part of the special activities for the Centenary celebrations, 100 years since teh beginning of Guiding.
If you think you would like to join us, as a Guide or as a Leader, please contact guides@parkurc.org.uk
